Emma Zdrojewski selected for District Honor Band

In a unique and very challenging audition opportunity, Emma Zdrojewski (flute) earned 4th chair out of 41 auditioning flutes. This placement puts Emma in the PMEA District 7 (South) Honor Band for 2021. (PMEA stands for PA Music Educators Association).

“Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19, there will be no in-person honor festivals,” Solanco High School Music Teacher Scott Weyman said. “However, members of PMEA District 7 felt strongly that we needed to keep challenging musical opportunities happening for our students. To that end, students who chose to take on the challenge, were given the opportunity to prepare specifically-assigned challenging audition repertoire that they could perfect, record, and submit to be judged in a virtual format. Participating students then received a ranking and feedback from the panel of directors who adjudicated their instrument group much like they would have when auditioning in person,” Weyman said.

As a result of Emma’s outstanding performance and presentation, she will now have the opportunity to prepare more audition repertoire in order to re-audition to try to earn a place in the PMEA Region 5 Honor Band. Region 5 consists of 15 counties. Placement in the Region 5 Honor Band would then lead to an opportunity for Emma to audition All-State Band.

In addition to sophomore Emma Zdrojewski, junior Juliana Weiss (clarinet) and junior Martin Stoner (tube) also made the commitment to participate in the audition process. “I am incredibly proud of Juliana, Martin, and Emma as they went above and beyond in their ongoing commitment to musical excellence,” Weyman said. “This was purely a pursuit rooted in a very high commitment to personal excellence – I admire and appreciate their efforts greatly.”
