Middle schools – in-person instruction 5 days a week on January 28

January 21, 2021

Solanco Middle-Level Learners & Families,

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with important information regarding some changes that will take place with the start of the second semester on January 28, 2021.

Our approved plan is for all of our in-person learners to return to in-person instruction five days per week beginning with the new semester. Wednesdays will no longer be a virtual instructional day.

With this change, we will also be altering our schedules, bringing them more in-line with a 6-day cycle which we ran during previous years. The main reason for making this switch is to better ensure that each of our learners is having balanced access to each of their scheduled courses- a snow day or a planned day off will not result in a learner missing in-person time with their instructors.

Thursday 1/28- Day 1 (A day)
Friday 1/29- Day 2 (B day)
Monday 2/1- Day 3 (A day)
Tuesday 2/2- Day 4 (B day)
Wednesday 2/3 – Day 5 (A day)
Thursday 2/4– Day 6 (B day)
Friday 2/5- Day 1 (A day)
Monday 2/8- Day 2 (B day)
Tuesday 2/9- Day 3 (A day)
Wednesday 2/10- Day 4 (B day)
Thursday 2/11- Day 5 (A day)
Friday 2/12- Day 6 (B day)

Instructional days will continue moving forward in this pattern for the remainder of the year.

Note: if we miss a day of school the cycle day is not skipped but rather picked up the next day school is in session
We will be staying with our Block Scheduling with just a few minor adjustments to times. Please see below.

Moving forward:
 We will continue to practice safety protocols with Personal Protective Equipment and effective cleaning procedures.
 We will continue to use creativity in the development of learning spaces to allow for 6-feet of social distance.
 We will be keeping Solanco Flex as an option for students/families who are being successful in this mode of instruction. Families of learners who are currently enrolled in Flex and are not demonstrating success will be contacted about other options moving forward, including a return to in-person instruction.
 Learners who are “in-person” will attend school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
 Parents/guardians are still encouraged to drive learners to school when possible. However, busses will be providing transportation each day.
 Large spaces will be used to house some classrooms to maintain 6 feet of social distance.
Asking for your help:

I ask you to please help remind your learners about the importance of following our expected health procedures. We want to keep offering in-person instruction for our learners and following our established procedures are very important steps in helping achieve this goal.

 Washing of hands and using hand sanitizer regularly
 Proper mask-wearing at all times- masks worn in a manner that covers both the individual’s mouth and nose. Teachers will continue to use structured mask breaks.
 The importance of practicing social distancing of 6 feet.
 Every morning each learner should complete the daily health screening before coming to school.

If your child is currently in Solanco Flex and you are interested in returning to full in-person instruction, contact a building administrator.

We have many supports in-place for learners, including our structured advisory program, tutoring programs, and the Student Assistance Program (SAP). If you would like to hear more about these supports, please contact each building’s main office:
Smith 717-786-2244 or Swift 717-548-2187.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns,

Paul Gladfelter
Solanco Middle-Level Principal
