Evaluation Clinic for 3- and 4-year-old children

Solanco School District will hold a virtual Evaluation Clinic for 3- and 4-year-old children of Solanco residents on September 23. Parents should consider registering their child for the clinic if they have concerns about his/her development in any of the following areas: language skills, self-help skills, the child’s ability to along with others, learning skills, or motor skills. The clinic is for children who are not currently receiving services through the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) Early Intervention Program.

Special Education Survey 
Parents of children who receive special education services from the Solanco School District are asked to complete a survey from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students are also asked to complete the survey.

Program Description

The Solanco School District offers a full range of services, programs and alternative placements for placement and implementation of the special education program. The school district has adopted a child find system to locate, identify and evaluate young children and children who are thought to be a child with a disability eligible for special education residing within the school district’s jurisdiction. Child find data is collected, maintained, and used in decision-making. Child find processes and procedures are evaluated for its effectiveness and the Solanco School District implements mechanisms to disseminate child find information to the Community on an annual basis.

A child eligible to receive special education services is a student who has been evaluated by the school district’s multidisciplinary team and has been determined to have one or more of the following disabilities, and who by reason thereof needs specially designed instruction and related services.

  • Autism
  • Deaf-Blindness
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Hearing Impairment Including Deafness
  • Mental Retardation
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Visual Impairment Including Blindness
  • Orthopedic Impairment
  • Other Health Impairment
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Speech/Language Impairment
  • Traumatic Brain Injury

Policies and procedures that assure that students with disabilities are included in the general education programs and extracurricular and non-academic programs and activities to the maximum extent appropriate in accordance with an Individualized Education Program are implemented. Additionally, the Solanco school district follows the state and federal guidelines for participation of students with disabilities in state and district-wide assessments including the determination of participation, the need for accommodations, and the methods of assessing students for whom regular assessment is not appropriate.
